PUP CAKES FOR McKINNEY'S BIRTHDAY!

My sweet McKinney had her second birthday earlier this month, and like the completely crazy person loving mother that I am, I made her a dog friendly birthday cake.

I mean just look at that face, who wouldn't want to spoil her!

Just a few minutes on Pinterest revealed to me that I am not the only person out there that loves their pet like a child. There were more birthday cake recipes than I could count.

After doing a little research, I combined a few favorites and settled on this one:

Dog-Friendly Birthday Cake Recipe:
1 cup shredded carrot
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup applesauce
1/3 cup honey
1 egg
1 cup flour
1 tsp. baking soda
Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes
Frost with cottage cheese and peanut butter

Combining the ingredients got a little tricky, and I wasn't wholly sure that the cake would turn out, but after 20 minutes in the oven it set right up!

And as you can see, I made three cakes because there were three awesome labs that had birthdays right around the same time. For baking I put three jumbo cup cake liners in a loaf pan, and spooned 1/3 of the mixture in to each. They baked perfectly, and when it came time to serve them, I simply removed the cupcake liner and had three perfect mini cakes.

I wish I had a better picture, but here are the girls getting ready to enjoy their birthday treats. The two dogs on the right belong to my Mother-in-Law. Lily was celebrating her 9th birthday, and Apen is a litter mate of McKinney, so she is also two. I love the way McKinney looks ready to dive in, while Aspen is tentatively waiting for the "release" command.

I wish I had better pictures of these guys enjoying their birthday treats, but I was too busy laughing and enjoying the moment as they tore in to them. It was a fun way to celebrate our spoiled pups!

  1. This is awesome and I am pinning for next year! My pups usually get puppy ice cream (that's what their crazy human calls it) for their birthday - plain yogurt, peanut butter and honey. They love it! Thanks for the idea!

  4. What a clever idea! The cake doesn't sound too bad to me, even. ;) Thanks for sharing at On Display Thursday!
